ABOUT VERNON EVANS
a powerful, intelligent, and joyous Black man
Vernon Evans is a son, brother, uncle, mentor, partner and UCLA graduate. He was wrongfully convicted in 2014 for a murder that he did not commit. Vernon is currently serving a life sentence but we know that this is just a temporary part of his journey as we fight for his physical freedom from the California state prison.
OUR MISSION
Vernon Lenzelle Evans represents thousands of Black and Brown folx who are criminalized because of their bodies and identities. We, the #FreeVernonNow Collective are loving, compassionate and peaceful warriors working to heal the broken criminal justice system by humanizing incarcerated people and challenging all systems of oppression. Our mission is to bring Vernon home.
OUR VISION
We challenge the systems that perpetuate systemic racism, white supremacy, police brutality, mass incarceration, and criminalization of poverty. We recognize our shared humanity-and that incarcerated people are an extension of ourselves. We envision a future where all incarcerated people are humanized and treated with love and compassion. Starting with Vernon.
